SANIBEL ISLAND 10K RACE 4 F.I.S.H. IS NOW VIRTUAL

The 13th Annual 10K Race 4 F.I.S.H., originally scheduled as a hybrid virtual and in-person event on Oct. 23, 2021, is now completely virtual. The change to an all virtual event was made out of an abundance of caution and care for participants and islanders due to the ongoing rise in COVID-19 cases.

You can register through Fort Myers Track Club and it’s open until October 31st. Below are the specifics

  • Registration closes October 31st (11:59pm).
  • Times must be entered by October 31st (11:59pm).

All participants will receive a gender-specific tri-blend tee shirt and medal printed with the 13th Annual Sanibel Island 10K Race for F.I.S.H. race logo.

Complimentary Skin Cancer Screening Wednesday, October 13th 8:30 a.m.- 12:30 p.m. Sanibel Recreation Center

Harris Dermatology will be offering a complimentary skin cancer screening at the Sanibel Recreation Center on Wednesday, October 13th from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 a.m. Screenings are quick and easy. The exam is a non-invasive, visual inspection of exposed areas of the body that will be done after a brief medical history is completed. No appointment or registration necessary – walk-ins are welcome. Face masks are required.

Track Update on Sanibel Causeway Shoreline Project

The City of Sanibel has received from Lee County updated communications related to the Shoreline Stabilization Project currently underway on Sanibel Causeway Island B.

The Sanibel Causeway Island B Shoreline Stabilization Project addresses chronic erosion of the San Carlos Bay and Pine Island Sound shorelines of the Causeway. The project consists of clearing exotic vegetation along the shoreline, excavating some existing stone which will be reused, placement of new beach sand and construction of “T-Groins”. A T-Groin is a structure built perpendicular to the shoreline and is used to capture sand preventing it from eroding off the beach.

The contractor will work first on the Pine Island Sound side of the island then move to the San Carlos Bay side of the island. Areas of Island B will be restricted during the construction of the shoreline stabilization project. The project is expected to be complete by spring 2022.
