On November 19, Jerry’s Foods on Sanibel unveiled a heartfelt memorial celebrating the legacy of Dick Muench and the exotic birds he lovingly cared for over nearly four decades at the plaza. The tribute recognizes Muench’s dedication to sharing the beauty of Central and South American birds with the Sanibel community and its visitors.
The commemorative plaque at the memorial reads:
“In 1983, Jerry Paulsen (Jerry’s Foods) and Dick Muench (Periwinkle Park) agreed that Dick would display several of his birds at Jerry’s Foods Sanibel. Over close to forty years, Dick cared for and displayed many exotic birds from Central and South America for the enjoyment of countless visitors to Sanibel. Dick lost his birds to the ravages of Hurricane Ian in 2002. In appreciation of the dedication, commitment, and friendship of Dick Muench.”
This memorial is a touching acknowledgment of Muench’s enduring impact on the community and his commitment to educating and delighting visitors with the wonder of exotic wildlife.
