Emergency restoration work will continue on the Sanibel Causeway from Thursday, September 15 to Friday, September 22, 2023. Crews will be working on McGregor Boulevard and the Sanibel Causeway from Port Comfort Road to Sanibel Island.
During this time, McGregor Boulevard will be reduced to one lane east of the toll plaza to Port Comfort Road. The causeway islands around the temporary roadway are closed to the public, including from the water.
Roadwork will take place from 6:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. each day. Crews will not be working on the weekends.
The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) advises motorists to plan ahead for delays and use caution in the area.
Thank you for your patience as we work to restore the Sanibel Causeway.
Here are some additional details about the work being done:
- Crews are repairing damage to the causeway caused by Hurricane Ian in 2022.
- The work includes repairing the roadway, bridge structures, and seawalls.
- The project is expected to be completed in early 2024.
