The Sanibel-Captiva Kiwanis Club is excited to announce its 51st annual Santa Run, spreading holiday cheer to the islands of Sanibel and Captiva on Dec. 23. This beloved tradition offers residents the opportunity to have Santa personally deliver gifts to their homes, making the season magical for recipients of all ages.
How to Participate in the Santa Run
To join in the festive fun and schedule a visit from Santa, follow these simple steps:
- Select and Wrap Gifts
- Choose a special gift for each recipient.
- Wrap and clearly label each gift with the recipient’s name.
- Prepare the Gift Sack
- Place all wrapped gifts into a single sack for your household.
- Include the delivery address and any specific instructions for each recipient.
- Add the name of the adult coordinating the visit.
- For condo deliveries, provide detailed directions or a map to ensure Santa finds his way.
- Drop Off Your Sack
- Deliver your prepared sack to the Sanibel Fire and Rescue District Station 171, located at 2351 Palm Ridge Road, Sanibel, no later than 5 p.m. on Dec. 23.
- Add a Personal Touch
- To make Santa’s visit extra memorable, include personal details about each recipient, such as favorite hobbies or holiday wishes, when labeling the gifts. These tidbits help Santa customize his message during the visit.
What to Expect on Santa Run Night
Santa and his merry team of elves will depart from the fire station at 5:30 p.m. and make deliveries to households from 6 to 8 p.m. Upon arrival, Santa will greet the entire family with a cheerful “Merry Christmas” and personally hand out each gift. Don’t forget to have your cameras ready to capture these special holiday moments!
A Tradition with Heartwarming History
The Santa Run began 51 years ago, inspired by Kiwanian Dick Muench’s experience with a similar event in Syracuse, New York. The inaugural run delivered 110 presents to 66 households, primarily benefiting children from The Sanibel School. Since then, the event has grown into a cherished annual tradition, bringing joy to countless families.
