The city of Sanibel reported that Island Inn Road, from the eastern gate to the mid-road cul-de-sac, will be closed on Mondays through Fridays to motorists, pedestrians and cyclists until further notice.
Why the closure? The city is using a section of Island Inn Road as a temporary staging area for trucks delivering sand as part of the ongoing Hurricane Ian Beach Recovery & Resilience Project. Due to the heavy truck traffic, it’s unsafe for pedestrians, cyclists, and personal vehicles to mix with the heavy machinery beyond the marked gate.
Truck access and alternative routes: Trucks will access the staging area via Tarpon Bay Road. Please be aware of increased traffic in this area.
Limited access for residents: Once the staging area is no longer needed, the road will be reopened to pedestrians and cyclists. The previously established limited access for authorized motorists will also be reinstated.
Stay informed: We understand this closure may cause inconvenience, and we appreciate your patience and cooperation. For the latest updates on the beach project and road closure, please visit the city website at www.mysanibel.com
