SanCap Resilience invites the community to an important and timely program, “Getting Energy Resilience Right: The Role of Clean Energy Technologies in Our Community’s Future,” on Tuesday, April 16 at 7 p.m. at The Community House, located at 2173 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel.
The event will be led by Bob Moore, Chair of the SanCap Resilience Steering Committee. Moore brings a wealth of knowledge and passion for sustainability, with experience as a retired business leader, co-chair of the Sanibel-Captiva Renewable Energy Working Group, and a trained member of the Climate Reality Project Leadership Corps. He also co-founded the Lee County Chapter of Climate Reality.
What the Program Will Cover
This free session will tackle some of the most pressing questions surrounding energy resilience in our community:
-
Why is energy resilience so important?
-
What are the risks of relying heavily on fossil fuels?
-
Are renewable energy options practical and affordable?
-
What can homeowners and business owners realistically do?
-
What are the next steps toward a more resilient future?
“We often take energy for granted — until it’s gone,” Moore said. “After a storm like Hurricane Ian, when power is out for weeks, we begin to understand how critical reliable energy is for everything from emergency response and clean water to communications and healthcare. Energy resilience is foundational to community resilience.”
