Sanibel Captiva Beach Resorts (SCBR) has officially announced plans to redevelop the former Beachview Cottages property, located at 3325 West Gulf Drive, Sanibel, marking another meaningful milestone in the island’s long-term recovery from Hurricane Ian.
The original cottages sustained irreparable damage during the 2022 storm. Now, with permit approvals secured and financial backing in place, SCBR is moving forward with a thoughtfully designed redevelopment that balances environmental responsibility with revitalizing hospitality.
“The redevelopment marks a significant step in the island’s ongoing recovery,” said Doug Babcock, CEO of SCBR. “We’ve taken great care to meet all local regulations and environmental standards through the permitting process.”
Preserving Charm, Building Resilience
The new vision for the property focuses on preserving the natural beauty and coastal charm of Sanibel, while investing in modern, resilient infrastructure. SCBR has committed to using sustainable building materials and storm-resilient designs to better protect the development against future weather events.
The approval process included close collaboration with local authorities to ensure compliance with building codes and environmental requirements. SCBR also completed a rigorous financial evaluation to secure the necessary funding and uphold responsible budget management throughout the project.
“Building back takes thought, time, and commitment,” Babcock added. “Our goal is to safeguard these beautiful barrier islands for both the short and long term. We remain committed to sustainable tourism and continue to work with local, state, and federal partners to support community-minded practices.”
More Details Coming Soon
Additional details on the redevelopment will be shared in the first quarter of the year, as SCBR continues its efforts to restore and enhance Sanibel’s beloved vacation landscape.
