Autumn in Southwest Florida brings the return of cool breezes, winter visitors, and one of the natural world’s most captivating wildlife dramas. The Southwest Florida Eagle Cam Season 15 live stream is officially live for the 2026–2027 nesting season, bringing global attention right back to the famous slash pine nest in North Fort Myers.
Following the official October 1 kickoff to Florida’s bald eagle nesting calendar, viewers tuning in this week have discovered a season brimming with intrigue, renewal, and hope. Male bald eagle M15 has returned to the territory, but with the heartbreaking loss of mate F23 earlier this year, all eyes are focused on whether a new female visitor will officially bond, build, and begin a new chapter at the nest.
At the LeAneSuarezGroup, we cherish the Southwest Florida Eagle Cam. For 15 years, this intimate window into nature has underscored the vital ecological richness and preservation values that make Sanibel, Captiva, and Fort Myers a globally cherished coastal sanctuary.
High Drama at the Nest: M15 and the Search for a Mate
Longtime nest followers know that M15 has endured extraordinary challenges over his tenure in North Fort Myers. After losing his iconic original mate Harriet in early 2023, he successfully bonded with F23. However, heartbreak struck again in early February 2026 when F23 went missing and is presumed dead, leaving M15 once again to single-handedly feed, protect, and fledge two eaglets just weeks shy of their first flights.
Now, as the cameras roll for Season 15, nest observers are watching dynamic territorial interactions unfold:
-
A Mysterious Female in the Territory: Soon after F23’s disappearance, a younger female was seen frequenting the pasture. That same female has been spotted in the area again this fall alongside M15.
-
Courtship & Stick Management: While the pair has not formally cemented a lifelong bond, early behaviors—such as bringing nest material and testing tree perches—are crucial steps observers are actively tracking.
-
Determining Her Background: High-definition close-up cameras are allowing raptor biologists and viewers to examine her plumage and beak characteristics to estimate her age and determine if she has nested previously.
NEST LEADERSHIP TIMELINE
[ 2012–2015 ] ──► Harriet & Ozzie (Foundational nest pair)
[ 2015–2023 ] ──► Harriet & M15 (7+ years of successful broods)
[ 2023–2026 ] ──► M15 & F23 (Rebuilding the lineage)
[ OCT. 2026+ ] ──► M15 & New Female Companion (Season 15 courtship phase)
“Things are different this time around. We are still mourning the loss of F23, but M15 has returned to the nest area. We think the same eagle that was around late spring is in the area with him. Hopefully, they will start to bring nest material to the nest and start that natural process. There are a lot of unknowns this year so it will make for interesting viewing.”
