The fourth annual Wellness in Nature @ “Ding” event will take place from January 23 to 26 at the J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge in Sanibel. Organized by the refuge and the “Ding” Darling Wildlife Society-Friends of the Refuge (DDWS), this four-day celebration of nature and well-being offers free activities designed to connect participants with the healing power of nature and highlight the importance of conservation.
Event Highlights
The event features a variety of engaging activities, from workshops and yoga sessions to live music and eco-creation stations. Some key highlights include:
- Keynote Speaker: Aimee Copeland
On January 23, Aimee Copeland, founder of the Aimee Copeland Foundation, will share her inspiring story of resilience following a life-changing accident. Her talks at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. will focus on the significance of creating accessible recreation spaces. - Wellness in Nature Fest
Taking place on January 25 from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at The Roost, the festival will feature:- Open-air live music
- Eco-creation stations
- Sunset yoga
- Refreshments
- An Interactive Conservation Pledge Wall
- Walk for Wellness: Learn the Basics of Energy Medicine
On January 26, wrap up the event with this invigorating session from 8:30 to 10 a.m., where you’ll explore the fundamentals of energy medicine while immersed in nature.
A Tradition of Healing in Nature
Supervisory Refuge Ranger Toni Westland shared the event’s goal:
“The purpose of the four-day event is to connect with new-to-‘Ding’ visitors and foster meaningful connections to nature. These experiences highlight how nature and humans help each other heal.”
Launched in 2021 with the unveiling of the self-guided Mindfulness Trail at the Bailey Tract, Wellness in Nature @ “Ding” has grown into a signature event designed to encourage outdoor activities that improve health and well-being.
