The Lee Health rural healthcare expansion is officially underway, bringing critical medical services to Hendry and Glades counties thanks to a new $1.95 million state grant from Florida’s Rural Health Transformation Program. This strategic initiative allows Fort Myers-based Lee Health to deploy localized urgent care, advanced telehealth technology, and enhanced diagnostic capabilities to underserved populations throughout the interior Gulf coast region.

As a primary component of a nearly $188 million statewide investment across 31 rural counties, this project marks a major milestone for the health system. Since converting from a public entity to a private nonprofit model in late 2024, Lee Health has utilized its increased operational flexibility to scale the Lee Health rural healthcare expansion beyond its traditional Lee County service boundaries, aiming to reduce long travel times for residents requiring routine, urgent, and specialty medical attention.

• LaBelle (Hendry County): The Lee Health satellite clinic at 930 S. Main St. is receiving significant diagnostic upgrades. The funding supports expanded walk-in convenient care hours and the installation of digital X-ray, EKG units, and comprehensive point-of-care laboratory equipment.

• Clewiston (Hendry County): To maximize service reach, the health system is installing a new OnMed CareStation telehealth kiosk. These stations facilitate virtual consultations with remote physicians, provide biometric health screenings, and offer immediate medical guidance in a private, clinical environment.

• Moore Haven (Glades County): Building on successful existing infrastructure, Lee Health is adding a second telehealth kiosk to the Moore Haven location, effectively doubling capacity for rapid virtual care navigation and specialty referrals.

Addressing Barriers Through Sustainable Care Models
