As the year draws to a close, it’s time to celebrate the holidays with family and friends. In Lee County, that means enjoying some festive fun while keeping in mind the adjusted schedules of various county services. Here’s a quick rundown of what to expect during the New Year’s holiday:
General Closures:
- Most Lee County administrative offices will be closed on Friday, December 29th and Monday, January 1st. This includes the courthouse, tax collector’s office, and permit offices.

Domestic Animal Services: The Lost & Found Pet Center and Pet Adoption Center will be closed on Saturday, December 30th. Normal hours resume on Tuesday, January 2nd. Remember, you can always check the lost pet pages on social media or call 239-533-7387 to report a missing pet.

LeeTran: No buses, trolleys, Ultra on-demand, or Passport services will be available on Sunday, January 1st. The Blue and Gold River District Trolley Lines will run until 1 a.m. on New Year’s Day for those attending late-night celebrations. Regular service resumes on Monday, January 2nd.

Library System: All library branches, including the Captiva Memorial Library, will be closed on Saturday, December 30th and Sunday, January 1st. Library administration and Home Borrower Services will also be closed on these days. But the library is always open online at leelibrary.net!

Parks & Recreation: Beaches, boat ramps, parks, and preserves will remain open from Friday, December 29th to Sunday, January 1st. However, pools will be closed from Saturday, December 30th to Tuesday, January 2nd. The administration office and recreation centers will also be closed on December 29th and January 1st. Solid Waste: There will be no regular garbage, recycling, and yard waste collection on Sunday, January 1st for unincorporated Lee County, the city of Bonita Springs, and the town of Fort Myers Beach. If your regular collection day is Monday, the pickup will be shifted to Tuesday. Remember, Christmas trees without decorations can be set out with yard waste, and wrapping paper (except metallic) and boxes are recyclable. Solid Waste offices and the Topaz Court Solid Waste Annex will be closed on December 29th and January 1st.
