Tarpon Bay Explorers (TBE), the official concessionaire of the J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge, has resumed its popular pontoon rentals. These rentals, available for both half-day and full-day bookings, can accommodate up to eight people. Visitors can use them for wildlife viewing, with opportunities to see birds, dolphins, and manatees, or for fishing species such as trout, redfish, snook, and snapper.
All pontoons must remain within the waters of Tarpon Bay. Fishing equipment is available for rent, and tackle is available for purchase. Individuals aged 16 and older are required to obtain a saltwater fishing license.
General Manager Adam Sauerland acknowledged the challenges of restoring services after Hurricane Ian, stating, “It’s a slow climb. We all are learning a new version of patience. But days like these are the good ones, where we can check another big milestone off our list and get one step closer to full recovery.”
Tarpon Bay Explorers will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through April, with the last rental available at 3 p.m. For reservations or additional information, visit www.tarponbayexplorers.com or call 239-472-8900. The facility is located at 900 Tarpon Bay Road, Sanibel.
