1. LaBlast Dance Fitness with Louis Van Amstel
Kick off your fitness journey with one of the most high-profile Sanibel Recreation Center events of the year. On Feb. 7, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., the center welcomes “Dancing with the Stars” professional dancer and LaBlast creator Louis Van Amstel.
This event is designed for people of all ages and fitness levels—no dance partner required! Following the high-energy workout, attendees are invited to a special meet-and-greet with Van Amstel, featuring photo opportunities and light refreshments.

2. Picture Perfect: 5 Weeks to Better Photos
For those looking to capture the stunning natural beauty of our island, the “Picture Perfect” series is a must-attend. Beginning Feb. 9 at 5:00 p.m., professional photographer Casey Bradley Gent will lead a session focused on “Tone and Balance.”
Participants will gain insights into the basics of professional photography, learning how to leverage lighting and composition to create gallery-worthy images of the Gulf coast.

3. “Get to Know Your Island” Speaker Series
The LeAne SUAREZ Group highly recommends the “Get to Know Your Island” program for anyone looking to deepen their connection to the Sanibel and Captiva communities. Taking place on Feb. 10 at noon, this session highlights the Charitable Foundation of the Islands and 100+ Women Who Care Sanibel & Captiva.
This free speaker series is designed to bridge the gap between residents and the organizations that make our islands unique. Light refreshments will be served, and while the event is free, registration is required.
4. Fashion First: “Sew Your Own Hat” Workshop
Unleash your creativity on Feb. 11 from noon to 2:30 p.m. In partnership with Fashion First Workshops, the center is hosting a sewing class specifically focused on creating your own custom hat—a perfect accessory for the Florida sun!

5. Signature Excursion: Shelling to Keywaydin Island
One of the most anticipated Sanibel Recreation Center events this season is the shelling trip to Keywaydin Island on Feb. 16. This full-day adventure (5:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.) is timed perfectly for a negative low-tide, offering the best conditions for finding rare shells.
Participants will meet before sunrise to head to Marco Island before cruising to Keywaydin. You are encouraged to pack a small cooler with lunch and drinks, as well as a beach chair.
