Saint Michael and All Angels Sanibel: “Ashes on the Go” Returns for Ash Wednesday 2026

Saint Michael and All Angels Sanibel is set to offer its signature “Ashes on the Go” program on Wednesday, February 18, 2026. This initiative provides a meaningful way for residents and visitors to observe Ash Wednesday while maintaining their daily island routines along the Periwinkle Way corridor.

The program is designed for maximum accessibility, allowing individuals to receive the imposition of ashes and a brief prayer by driving, walking, or bicycling up to the station located outside near the Sanibel Shared Use Path.

Service Schedule & Event Details

The church has organized the day into two outdoor sessions and a traditional indoor service to accommodate various schedules:

  • Outdoor “Ashes on the Go” (Shared Use Path):

    • Morning Session: 7:00 a.m. – 11:45 a.m.

    • Afternoon Session: 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

  • Traditional Indoor Service: * Time: 12:00 p.m. (Noon) inside the sanctuary.

Spiritual Resources: “Lent in a Bag” Kits

In addition to the imposition of ashes, the church will provide “Lent in a Bag” kits. These take-home resources are curated to help individuals and families engage in the 40-day Lenten journey. The kits typically include symbolic items—such as sand, stones, and candles—alongside guided reflections to facilitate meaningful prayer and spiritual renewal from the comfort of home.

Community & Inclusion

Led by Rector Bill Van Oss, Saint Michael and All Angels continues to be a beacon of inclusivity on the island. The church emphasizes that all members of the community, regardless of denomination or background, are invited to participate in these Ash Wednesday observances.

Local Expert Note: For those planning to attend the noon service or the outdoor sessions, the church is conveniently located at 2304 Periwinkle Way. If you are utilizing the bike paths, this is an excellent stop during your morning ride to enjoy the natural beauty and spiritual serenity of the island.

For further information regarding Lenten studies or other parish events, the community can visit the official Saint Michael and All Angels website.
