Celebrating Conservation: “Love Sanibel Back” Launches Wild Mile Week

Sanibel Island’s deep-rooted dedication to environmental preservation takes center stage this month. Running from July 20 through July 26, 2026, the island’s popular grassroots campaign officially enters Week 8 under the highly anticipated theme of “Wild Mile Week.”

Residents, winter snowbirds, and vacationers are invited to explore the unique wildlife, pristine natural landscapes, and world-renowned conservation organizations that make our barrier island sanctuary unlike anywhere else on Earth.

At the LeAneSuarezGroup, we know that Sanibel’s protected interior wetlands and dedicated wildlife refuges are precisely what give our local real estate such incredible, enduring value. Taking a week to honor our local ecosystems helps ensure that the raw, untouched beauty of our island remains intact for generations to come.

In a nutshell: Week 8 spotlights a different eco-tourism destination or wildlife nonprofit each day, offering exclusive partner discounts, educational workshops, volunteer opportunities, and nature-themed fitness events.

The Daily Schedule: Navigating the Wild Mile Lineup

To maximize community engagement, organizers have designated a specific focal point for each day of the campaign. Grab your official campaign button or tote bag to unlock localized perks while exploring these key attractions:

  • Monday, July 20 – Tarpon Bay Explorers Day: Kick off the week on the water. Enjoy a 20% discount on kayak and paddleboard rentals today by showing your official campaign button or tote bag.

  • Tuesday, July 21 – Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum & Aquarium Day: Head to the museum for extended evening operating hours from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM, featuring completely free admission for the public. Earlier in the morning, join a free Flamingo Flow Aqua Yogalates session at the Sanibel Recreation Center pool at 10:15 AM.

  • Wednesday, July 22 – Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation (SCCF) Day: Get your hands dirty or enjoy an educational stroll. Take part in a guided beachwalk at the Island Inn from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM, or join the Trail Blazers volunteer crew for habitat restoration at Shipley Trail from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM. Wind down with a paid Echoes of Nature Sound Bowl session at the Rec Center at 5:30 PM.

  • Thursday, July 23 – J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge Day: Bike or drive through the world-famous Wildlife Drive. While the main Visitor Center and Nature Store are temporarily closed for structural ramp construction, a Roving Ranger will be stationed in the main parking lot from 9:00 AM to Noon handing out free promotional gifts to button holders.

  • Friday, July 24 – Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife (CROW) Day: Support our local animal hospital. CROW is offering a 20% discount on all regular-priced adult and youth retail t-shirts and hoodies in their visitor center gift shop today.

The Social Media Challenge: Snap and Share

Alongside the daily on-site schedules, the community is encouraged to document their outdoor adventures. Simply snap a picture of the native wildlife you encounter—whether it’s a roseate spoonbill, a gopher tortoise, or a pod of dolphins—and post it to Facebook or Instagram using the campaign hashtag #LoveSanibelBack. By sharing your pictures, you will be automatically entered into a drawing to win random gift cards to local restaurants and boutiques.

A True Multi-Partner Coalition

Operating continuously through August, the overall Love Sanibel Back master framework centers around the 2026 motto: “Buy Local — Spread Joy — Give Back.” The extensive community initiative involves roughly 75 participating island businesses, shops, and environmental groups. It is proudly hosted by Saint Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, working in direct collaboration with the City of Sanibel and the SanCap Chamber.

To review a comprehensive map of participating storefronts or download your mobile-exclusive Wild Mile Pass to track your visits and earn prizes, explore the Official Saint Michael’s Love Sanibel Back Hub. Grab your camera, lace up your walking shoes, and let’s explore the wild side of our beautiful sanctuary island!
