Sensational $3.1M Shift: 1 Fort Myers Dinner Theatre Gator Lanes Transformation Begins

The Fort Myers Dinner Theatre Gator Lanes acquisition marks a monumental cultural transformation for south Fort Myers, converting a beloved 48-year-old bowling alley into a sprawling 28,000-square-foot performing arts and entertainment complex. Theater operators Michelle and Jeremy Kuntze officially purchased the iconic facility at 1901 Crystal Drive on July 17, 2026, for $3.1 million, launching a vision to blend live stage performances, youth arts education, mystery dinner theater, and casual bowling under one roof near the Gulf coast.

Within 48 hours of closing on the transaction, the husband-and-wife duo demonstrated the site’s immediate turnaround capability by staging their inaugural youth production, James and the Giant Peach. The performance took place inside the building’s northern expansion formerly the Ter-Tini’s restaurant venue which is currently undergoing a complete build-out into a dedicated 150-seat youth theater.

Reimagining the 28,000-Square-Foot Floor Plan

The strategic transition from Gator Lanes into the new Fort Myers Dinner Theatre Gator Lanes facility expands the production team’s footprint by more than six times compared to their former 4,400-square-foot location at 16120 San Carlos Blvd (which will now serve primarily as prop and costume storage).

The multi-stage architectural redesign delivers a clear, scannable overview of how the 28,000-square-foot footprint will be reallocated:

  • Northern Addition (Former Ter-Tini’s Space): Converted into a 150-seat youth theater hosting active summer camps, after-school arts academies, and student mainstage plays.

  • Main Auditorium (Lanes 1 Through 10): With the first four lanes previously removed, lanes five through 10 are being decommissioned to build a second 5,500-square-foot mainstage theater featuring 200 seats.

  • Active Bowling Complex (Lanes 11 Through 25): Retaining 15 operational bowling lanes to create a family-friendly hybrid complex where guests can bowl, dine, and watch live theater in a single venue.

  • On-Site Kitchen & Dining: Upgrading the full-service commercial kitchen to launch a dynamic food and beverage program by September, providing the culinary backbone for interactive mystery dinner theater shows.

Honoring Five Decades of Family Entertainment History

For former owner Kevin Walsh, the $3.1 million sale represents a bittersweet conclusion to nearly five decades of hands-on stewardship. Walsh’s father was one of 10 original couples who co-founded Gator Lanes, opening the doors on April 10, 1978. Walsh began working at the bowling alley at age 15 during initial construction, later taking over bar management at 22 before buying out the founding partners in 1983.

Over the past 48 years, Gator Lanes weathered significant national economic shifts. Previous sales fell through during the 1980 economic downturn and again during the Great Recession in 2008. The successful July 2026 acquisition by the Kuntze family preserves the building’s identity as a community hub while adapting its layout for a new era of arts and leisure.

Deep Local Roots Fueling Community Growth

Michelle Kuntze brings more than two decades of regional theater experience to the project. After starting her first home-based theater company at age 15 while attending Cypress Lake High School, she earned her degree at the University of Central Florida before returning to Lee County. She established local after-school drama programs and taught at Challenger Middle School and Canterbury School before directing Fort Myers Theatre full-time.
