Mega Travel Hub: Buc-ee’s Port Charlotte Development Schedule Targets 2029

The Buc-ee’s Port Charlotte development schedule has taken a substantial step forward following formal approval from the Charlotte County Board of County Commissioners, establishing a target buildout date of September 2029 for Southwest Florida’s first location. Under the newly sanctioned final detail site plan, the Texas-based travel center giant is cleared to transition from preliminary zoning entitlements into active site engineering, building permits, and infrastructure mobilization along Florida’s Gulf coast corridor.

Situated on approximately 28 acres at 25599 Harborview Road, the proposed mega-center sits directly at the Interstate 75 interchange just north of the Peace River. While the September 2029 milestone represents the contractual window for substantial completion under county development orders rather than a finalized public grand opening date, the decision resolves years of land-use evaluations and moves the high-profile commercial travel hub into its implementation phase.

Facility Footprint and the Buc-ee’s Port Charlotte Development Schedule

The scale of the planned Port Charlotte travel center mirrors the brand’s flagship roadside installations across the Southeast. According to planning filings coordinated through engineering consultant Kimley-Horn and Associates, the complex will deliver an expansive retail and fueling destination designed to manage high volumes of Interstate 75 passenger traffic:

  • 74,000-Square-Foot Retail Center: Housing Buc-ee’s signature Texas barbecue carving stations, fresh brisket sandwiches, wall-to-wall artisan jerky displays, homemade fudge counters, branded merchandise, and famously pristine restrooms.

  • 120 Fueling Positions: Outfitted with 60 dual-sided fueling dispensers under sweeping protective canopies, catering strictly to passenger vehicles, SUVs, and personal light trucks.

  • 740 Vehicle Parking Spaces: Providing ample surface parking to accommodate long-distance interstate road trippers, seasonal tourists, and local commuters without roadway backups.

  • Commercial Truck Restrictions: In alignment with standard company operating policies nationwide, the facility will strictly prohibit 18-wheel commercial semi-trucks, maintaining a passenger-car-focused environment.

Integration Within the Harborview Development of Regional Impact

The project functions as a cornerstone commercial anchor within the larger Harborview Development of Regional Impact (DRI). To accommodate the travel center’s unique utility demands and traffic patterns, county officials approved an equivalency exchange that converted previously designated multi-family dwelling rights within the DRI into commercial fueling allocations.

The location near the Peace River and I-75 requires extensive roadway and utility coordination before vertical building construction can commence. County infrastructure stipulations require dedicated turn lanes, signalization improvements, and stormwater retention facilities engineered to safeguard regional watersheds that flow outward toward Charlotte Harbor.

Economic Momentum Across Charlotte County

The advance of the Buc-ee’s Port Charlotte development schedule reflects the rapid commercial development taking shape throughout Charlotte County and neighboring communities. As population migration accelerates across Port Charlotte and Punta Gorda, national commercial operators are heavily investing in critical arterial interchanges.

The addition of an estimated 200 to 250 permanent full-time jobs—offering above-average starting wages and comprehensive health benefits—will inject significant payroll capital into the local service economy. This commercial expansion parallels broader regional infrastructure investments designed to accommodate population growth and transit demands across Southwest Florida.
