The Sanibel Recreation Center has released its latest schedule of diverse programs and activities, offering everything from creative workshops and historical discussions to off-island excursions.

Jan. 21: Creative Skills & Healing The week kicked off with a practical sewing workshop in partnership with Fashion First Workshops, teaching attendees how to hem and sew buttons. Later in the evening, a “Sound Bowl Healing” session with Dani provided a relaxing wellness experience.

Jan. 22: One Community, One Book In collaboration with the Sanibel Public Library and MacIntosh Books + Paper, the monthly book club met to discuss “Sanibel’s Story” by island historian Betty Anholt. The event featured an interview with the author by docent Ginny Darby, along with personal stories from Anholt’s 50 years on the island.

Jan. 23: Coffee & Code Cafe The City’s Planning Department hosted a casual gathering at 10:00 a.m. to provide residents with an easy-to-understand overview of the City’s codes, featuring breakout sessions for Q&A.

Jan. 26: Health Checks & Photography Skills

9:30 a.m.: The Sanibel Fire and Rescue District will offer complimentary blood pressure testing in the lobby. No registration is required.

5:00 p.m.: The “Picture Perfect: 5 Weeks to Better Photos” series continues with Casey Bradley Gent. This session focuses on “Crop and Compose,” teaching the basics of professional photography. ($20 members/$25 non-members per session).

Jan. 27: Get to Know Your Island

Noon: The speaker series returns, highlighting the Island Water Association. This free program connects the community with the organizations that make Sanibel unique. Light refreshments will be served. Registration is required.

Jan. 28: Wellness Wednesday

Noon: This week’s session focuses on longevity with the topic: “Unlocking The Keys To Extending Your Health Span.” Registration is required.

Jan. 29: Road Trip to Revs Institute

9:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.: The Rec Center is hosting a trip to the Revs Institute Auto Museum in Naples. Open to ages 18+, the trip includes admission to the world-class classic car museum, a docent tour, and transportation via city van. Lunch in Naples will follow (self-pay).

Membership: A variety of memberships, passes, and punch cards are available. Beach parking permits are also available for purchase.
