Fort Myers Beach Shrimp Festival 2026: A Celebration of Island Heritage

The wait is finally over! The Fort Myers Beach Shrimp Festival 2026 has officially kicked off today, Saturday, March 7, marking the 68th year of this beloved island tradition. Thousands of residents and visitors are gathering along Old San Carlos Boulevard and Estero Boulevard to honor the “Pink Gold” heritage that is the lifeblood of our local maritime community.

As your local experts at the LeAne SUAREZ Group, we are thrilled to see our community come together for this high-energy weekend. Whether you are catching the parade today or planning to attend the Blessing of the Fleet tomorrow, this festival showcases the resilience and spirit that define the Fort Myers Beach lifestyle.

Saturday, March 7

The Fort Myers Beach Shrimp Festival 2026 began with an energizing start this morning. If you are on the island or heading over, here is what is happening:

  • The 5K Run & Parade: The morning started with the annual 5K run, followed by the iconic Shrimp Festival Parade at 10:00 a.m.

  • Important Traffic Note: Please be aware that the Matanzas Pass Bridge is closed to vehicle traffic today from 9:00 a.m. until noon to allow for the parade.

  • Pink Gold Shrimp Boil: Starting at 10:00 a.m. and running until 5:00 p.m., the Lions Club is serving up world-famous shrimp dinners at Bayside Park. Every container sold supports local scholarships and charitable programs.

  • Queens Pageant: Head over to Bayside Veterans Park at 1:00 p.m. to see the crowning of the 2026 Shrimp Festival Queen.

Sunday, March 8

The celebration continues tomorrow with some of the festival’s most meaningful and fun traditions.

  • Blessing of the Fleet: A powerful island tradition, the blessing will take place at the commercial docks on San Carlos Island. A church service begins at 10:00 a.m., followed by the official blessing of the shrimp boats at 11:00 a.m.

  • Shrimp Eating Championship: For those with a competitive appetite, the Shrimp Eating Contest kicks off at 2:00 p.m. at Bayside Park.

  • Arts & Crafts Expo: The marketplace remains open all day Sunday (10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.) along Old San Carlos Boulevard, featuring over 100 local and regional artisans.

Pro-Tips for a Perfect Festival Weekend

Navigating the Fort Myers Beach Shrimp Festival 2026 is best done with a bit of local insight:

  • Use the Tram: Parking on the island is at a premium this weekend. We highly recommend utilizing the free LeeTran tram and trolley services to get around without the stress of Matanzas Pass congestion.

  • Hydrate and Shop: The March sun is out! Visit our local boutiques along Third Street and Old San Carlos Boulevard to stay cool and support the small businesses that are the heart of the island.

  • Stay for the Sunset: After the festival activities wind down at 5:00 p.m., there’s no better way to end the day than watching the sunset from the beach.

Local Expert Note: At the LeAneSUAREZGroup, we believe there is no better time to see the true character of Fort Myers Beach. The Shrimp Festival is a testament to our history and our future. If you’re in town for the festivities, stop by and say hello—we love sharing what makes this island so special!
