Lee County Memorial Day Schedule 2026: Closures & Waste Delays

Lee County Announces Memorial Day Holiday Schedule and Service Adjustments

In observance of Memorial Day, most Lee County administrative operations will be closed on Monday, May 25, 2026. Normal business operations and county schedules will resume on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.

At the LeAneSuarezGroup, we want to ensure our clients, residents, and visitors are fully prepared for the holiday weekend. Whether you need to know when your trash will be collected on Captiva or if public transit is running on the mainland, here is your complete guide to Lee County’s holiday service adjustments.

In a nutshell: Lee County administrative offices, animal services, and LeeTran operations are closed on Memorial Day. Parks, pools, and preserves remain open, while residential trash collection will be delayed by exactly one day all week.

The Big One: Solid Waste and Recycling Delays

If you live in an unincorporated portion of the county—which includes Captiva Island—or within Bonita Springs, Estero, and Fort Myers Beach, your waste collection schedule will shift.

Garbage, recycling, and yard waste collections will take place one day later than your regularly scheduled day for the entire week following the holiday.

  • Monday Pickups will occur on Tuesday.

  • Tuesday Pickups will occur on Wednesday, and so on through Saturday, May 30.

  • Regular Schedules will officially resume on Monday, June 1, 2026.

Facility Closures & Recycling Tips

All Lee County Solid Waste facilities and offices will be closed on May 25. This includes the Household Chemical Waste Collection Facility (Topaz Court), the Resource Recovery Facility (Buckingham Road), and the Lee/Hendry Regional Solid Waste Disposal Facility.

Holiday Recycling Reminder: Residents are highly encouraged to properly recycle plastic bottles, metal cans, and glass containers accumulated over the holiday weekend. However, please ensure you do not place plastic bags into your recycling cart, as they jam the sorting machinery.

Lee County Department Holiday Schedules

To help you plan your errands and holiday recreation, here is a quick breakdown of department statuses for Monday, May 25:

Department / Facility Holiday Status Reopening Date
Community Development Lobbies and phone lines completely closed. May 26, 2026
Domestic Animal Services Facility at 5600 Banner Drive closed. May 26, 2026
LeeTran Transit Services No bus, trolley, mobility on-demand, or paratransit routes will run. May 26, 2026
Parks & Rec Offices & Rec Centers All administrative offices and rec centers closed. May 26, 2026
Parks, Pools, & Preserves OPEN for public enjoyment. Normal Hours

Recreation and Transit Planning

If you are taking advantage of the long weekend to explore the outdoors, Lee County’s beautiful parks, public pools, and environmental preserves are an excellent choice. You can view a comprehensive directory of active locations, operational hours, and specific amenities by visiting the official Lee Parks Portal.

If you are heading out to a county park or beach park, please remember that alcohol is strictly prohibited within all county park boundaries.

For those who rely on public transportation, please make alternative travel arrangements for Monday, as all LeeTran wheels are paused for the holiday. You can map out your routes and check upcoming weekday timetables ahead of time via the LeeTran Transit Website.

We hope everyone in Southwest Florida has a safe, smooth, and meaningful Memorial Day weekend!
