Naples Utility Project: A $5.8M Infrastructure Upgrade for Local Golf Communities

The Naples utility project is officially moving forward, bringing a critical $5.785 million infrastructure upgrade to some of the area’s most established residential enclaves. In early May, both the Naples City Council and the Collier County Board of County Commissioners unanimously approved a joint construction contract to overhaul the stormwater system and water mains serving the Big Cypress Golf and Country Club and the Country Club of Naples.

For the local real estate market, large-scale public investments in established neighborhoods are key indicators of sustained property value and community resilience.

Scope and Timeline of the Naples Utility Project

Awarded to the Fort Myers-based Wright Construction Group, this comprehensive Naples utility project is designed to address long-standing drainage issues within these 1960s-era communities. The extensive retrofit will focus on Burning Tree Drive, Cypress Pointe Drive, and Mel Jen Drive.

The infrastructure improvements are divided into two distinct phases to maximize efficiency:

  • Phase 1: Installation of two electric-powered stormwater pumping stations by the county to directly relieve historical flooding and standing water issues.

  • Phase 2: Upgrading the water main and drainage systems. This involves regrading roadside swales, replacing driveway culverts to boost capacity, and connecting homes to a modernized, high-capacity water network.

To ensure minimal disruption to residents’ daily lives and property aesthetics, the contract mandates that driveways be rebuilt to match their original appearance, and disturbed lawns will be fully resodded. Additionally, new fire hydrants will be installed to meet modern spacing standards, enhancing overall neighborhood safety. The entire development is slated for completion within a strict 270-day timeline.

Real Estate Impact of the Naples Utility Project

In coastal and low-lying regions, robust stormwater management is a top priority for modern homebuyers. By retrofitting a roughly 100-home community and a premier 18-hole golf course, local officials are ensuring these neighborhoods remain highly competitive against newer construction that already features modernized drainage.

The cost-sharing interlocal agreement ensures that both municipalities contribute to the area’s long-term sustainability:

Entity Funding Responsibility Project Focus Area
Collier County $3,282,544.68 Stormwater System & Pump Upgrades
City of Naples $2,503,202.79 Water Main & Drainage Modernization
Contingency Allowance $578,574.75 Shared Fund for Unforeseen Circumstances

This level of public investment acts as a strong signal to prospective buyers and current residents. Upgraded utilities not only protect the physical assets from extreme weather events but also lower the long-term risk profile of the neighborhood.

For those tracking local development and capital improvements, further details on municipal initiatives can be found through the official City of Naples and Collier County Government portals.
