Scooters Pizza Kitchen Sanibel: Detroit-Style Pizza Hits the Island

Scooters Pizza Kitchen Sanibel: A “Scratch Kitchen” Experience

Co-owners Miles Sweiss and Geno Accra envisioned a restaurant that captures the “chill island vibe”—the feeling of cruising through Sanibel on a scooter. But beyond the relaxed atmosphere, Scooters Pizza Kitchen Sanibel is serious about its craft.

As a true scratch kitchen, the team prepares everything from “flour to finish,” using premium ingredients that the owners are proud to serve to their own families.

Bringing Detroit-Style to the Gulf Coast

Scooters introduces a unique product to the islands: Detroit-style pan pizza. Historically baked in rectangular automotive parts trays, this style is famous for its:

  • Caramelized Cheese Crust: A crispy, savory edge that defines the style.

  • Light, Airy Center: A thick but pillowy dough that stands up to hearty toppings.

The Island’s Largest Pizza (and More)

If you have a large family or an even larger appetite, Scooters Pizza Kitchen Sanibel claims to have the largest pizza on the island and possibly all of Southwest Florida.

Pizza Style Size/Feature Highlights
New York Style 24-inch Giant Slices served at lunch are a full foot long.
Hand-Tossed 16-inch Traditional island favorite.
Thin-Crust 16-inch For those who like a lighter bite.
Specialty Options Build-Your-Own Includes gluten-free crusts and boneless wings.

Community Support and Future Growth

The response from the Sanibel community has been overwhelming. “The local community and the chamber have encouraged us mentally, emotionally, and financially,” Sweiss shared during the ceremony.

Chamber President John Lai noted that the unique business model and product “rounds out the islands’ dining scene perfectly”.

Visit Scooters Today

While takeout is currently the most popular way to enjoy their pies, Scooters offers outdoor seating for those who want to soak in the Palm Ridge Road atmosphere.

  • Location: 2496 Palm Ridge Road, Sanibel.

  • Coming Soon: The owners look forward to adding delivery and gelato in the very near future.
