Seasonal Advisory: Tarpon Bay Explorers Announces Brief September Hiatus

If you are planning an eco-tour, kayak adventure, or fishing charter on Sanibel Island this late summer, take note of an upcoming schedule adjustment. Tarpon Bay Explorers, the official recreation and tour concession for the J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge, will close for a brief two-week seasonal break from September 14 through September 27, 2026.

The concession will officially resume full daily operations on Monday, September 28, 2026.

At the LeAneSuarezGroup, we keep our residents, visiting guests, and seasonal homeowners informed about island operational schedules. Understanding access timelines across our conservation preserves ensures seamless planning for your outdoor activities in paradise.

“September is generally a very slow time for us and the island in general. We are hoping this will be the last year that we close for a portion of September.”

— Adam Sauerland, General Manager of Tarpon Bay Explorers

Wildlife Drive vs. Tarpon Bay: What Remains Open?

While Tarpon Bay Explorers operates the entry fee booth at Wildlife Drive, the drive itself will remain fully accessible to vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists throughout the entire month of September.
