Exciting Arrival: Whataburger South Fort Myers Location Builds Fall Hype Ahead of Debut

The highly anticipated Whataburger south Fort Myers location is generating massive buzz across the regional food scene as its iconic orange-and-white architectural branding takes its permanent shape. While the exterior of the building appears fully finalized to passing motorists along the busy U.S. 41 corridor, corporate officials confirm that local burger enthusiasts will need to exercise just a bit more patience before ordering their first signature honey butter chicken biscuit.

According to regional management, the corporate team has targeted September 2026 for its official public opening date. Juan Valenzuela, Whataburger’s senior field marketing and events manager for the Florida territory, noted that the completed exterior aesthetic serves as a deliberate teaser to build community momentum while interior contractors finish setting up advanced kitchen mechanics and testing supply chain channels.

Transforming a Familiar Cleveland Avenue Retail Footprint

The structural placement of the Whataburger south Fort Myers location breathes new life into a highly visible piece of commercial real estate. Situated at 12916 S. Cleveland Ave., the corporate-owned restaurant occupies an infill lot that formerly housed an Aussie Grill, and a Boston Market prior to that. This positioning places the Texas-born brand right in the heart of a high-density retail cluster between College Parkway and Daniels Parkway.

The corporate team is managing a highly structured corporate onboarding campaign to fully staff the facility before opening day:

  • High-Volume Employment Influx: The restaurant needs to hire and train between 65 and 75 employees from the local labor pool.

  • Structured Training Matrix: Management utilizes a specialized, multi-week training protocol to ensure its localized teams match the brand’s exact guest service standards.

  • A Culture of Care: The brand relies heavily on its foundational commitment to hospitality, prioritizing comprehensive staff preparation over a rushed, premature opening schedule.

Mapping the Historical Texas Brand’s Coastal Expansion

The launch of the Whataburger south Fort Myers location represents a major geographic milestone for the San Antonio-headquartered enterprise, which originally debuted as a single roadside stand in Corpus Christi, Texas, back in 1950. While the chain established its earliest Florida footprint in Pensacola in 1959, its presence has historically been concentrated in the Panhandle and Jacksonville regions.

The south Fort Myers store marks the company’s furthest push south along the western peninsula, establishing a primary foothold to serve the heavy influx of Texas transplants and vacationers who have relocated to the Gulf coast region. The restaurant recently celebrated the opening of its 53rd location in the state—a modest figure compared to its base of more than 900 restaurants in Texas—but one that signals an aggressive, well-capitalized Southeast development strategy.

Future Master Planning Across Lee and Charlotte Counties

The upcoming autumn debut is merely the opening salvo in a broader multi-point regional expansion blueprint. Valenzuela confirmed that a second Whataburger south Fort Myers location equivalent is already moving through active development farther south in Estero.

The second regional store will take over a former Pollo Tropical building at 22927 Lyden Drive, situated directly across the street from the high-traffic Coconut Point mall. Contractors are pacing that project to open by the end of December 2026. Simultaneously, corporate real estate scouts are actively analyzing territory configurations in Charlotte County, seeking a viable third location to anchor the Port Charlotte area.

Beyond serving up premium made-to-order burgers on toasted five-inch buns, the brand intends to integrate deeply into local school systems through specialized civic outreach. The company operates a free breakfast program for teachers, a structured student success initiative, and comprehensive college scholarship opportunities that are fully available to both local customers and the high school and college students working inside their kitchens.
